Serving on a commission, board or committee is a great way to get involved in your community. These city advisory bodies serve as a forum for community input and bring new ideas to the City Council.

Serve on a San Marcos commission, board or committee

If you would like to serve on a commission, board or committee, the first step is to submit an application. On the application, you may list the advisory body or bodies that interest you.

Vacancies

Most terms expire on June 30 or December 31 every two or four years, depending on the body. We publish a list of planned vacancies each December for the year ahead. This list includes all of the terms set to expire for each commission, board and committee.

From time to time, unplanned vacancies occur, when appointed members cannot complete their terms. Vacancy notices are published on this web page, along with the deadline to submit an application.  Applications remain active for one year and may be used for unexpected vacancies. If you are not selected during the year and still want to serve, submit a new application, and the one-year period starts over.

Learn about the appointment process

Appointments are made by the Mayor and City Council following interviews with applicants. Members serve at the will of the City Council or until a qualified successor has been appointed.

Commission, board and committee compensation

Some commissions, boards and committees offer a stipend for meeting attendance. Detailed information is available on their respective webpages.

FAN HALEN

Known as “The World’s Most Authentic Tribute to Van Halen”, FAN HALEN sets the stage for a night with Dave, Eddie, Alex and Michael with a true-to-life tribute to not only the band but the spirit of an era!

Based in Southern California, FAN HALEN has been together for 10 years playing to enthusiastic crowds all over the US as well as the globe including Japan, South America, Canada and Mexico.

Ernie Berru as David Lee Roth is so uncanny and convincing it’s got to be witnessed to be believed. From Diamond Dave’s unmistakable costumes to his signature scream and unique vocal delivery, Ernie delivers the swagger and bravado second only to Roth himself!

Derek Fuller as Edward Van Halen recreates Edward’s classic guitar tone, playing every riff and solo with as much fury and technique as Edward himself, while capturing all of the enthusiasm and flash of Eddie's engaging live personality.

George DuBose as Michael Anthony looks strikingly like Michael and supplies the low-end bass groove, high-end energy, and most importantly the high harmony backing vocals, which is essential in delivering the quintessential signature sound of Van Halen.

Mike Russo as Alex Van Halen behind his amazing circa 1984 24-piece double-barreled quad bass drum Ludwig kit delivers the thunderous rhythms and heavy artillery with all the enthusiasm, energy and ear-to-ear grin that Alex brought to Van Halen every night.

You won’t believe your eyes or ears when you come to a FAN HALEN show as you’ll feel like its 1984 all over again! From the look of the band, the choreography, the note-for-note reproduction of the greatest rock songs ever written to the sonic energy of the performance, nothing is overlooked...in other words, while FAN HALEN is on stage they are Van Halen!

Children 12 and under are free! Doors open at 6:00pm with the show starting at 7:30pm. Please bring blankets and/or low-back chairs. NO DOGS ALLOWED.
