Mandatory programs

The state of California has several recycling laws affecting businesses and multifamily properties. Find out what's required and how we can help you with compliance.

Mandatory commercial and multifamily recycling

California law (AB 341) requires certain businesses and multi-family properties to participate in recycling programs. The goal is to reduce waste sent to landfills and promote sustainable practices.

Key requirements for businesses and property managers

  • Applies to businesses generating four cubic yards or more of solid waste per week.
  • Includes multi-family housing communities with five or more units, regardless of waste volume.

Steps to comply

  • Contact EDCO Waste and Recycling Services to set up recycling services.
  • Work with EDCO to determine a recycling plan that meets your needs.
  • Encourage tenants, employees, and residents to use provided recycling bins for paper, plastics, glass, and metals.

Benefits of compliance

  • Helps meet state recycling requirements.
  • Reduces environmental impact by diverting recyclable materials from landfills.
  • Potential cost savings, as recycling service fees are often lower than trash collection fees.
