San Marcos city officials will gather on Wednesday, June 11 at 5 pm to celebrate the grand opening of Connors Park located at 320 West San Marcos Boulevard, adjacent to San Marcos Elementary School. The ceremony is open to the public and guests are encouraged to carpool.
Taking less than one year to complete, Connors Park was primarily funded through a California parks grant and made possible through a joint-use agreement with San Marcos Unified School District. The 4.7-acre site features a multi-use synthetic turf field, lighted tennis/basketball/pickleball courts, shaded picnic areas, a tot lot, restrooms and a concession stand.
“Versatility is the name of the game,” said Community Services Director Buck Martin. “By incorporating several multi-use spaces, the park maximizes space to provide a variety of activities at any one time. With synthetic turf and lighted sporting areas, residents can also enjoy the park year-round and during evening hours.”
Named after the late Mary Young Connors, a San Marcos community leader and former elementary school teacher, the park adds to San Marcos’ 16 major parks and 18 mini parks, demonstrating the City’s continued commitment to provide recreational opportunities for residents.
