Smoke detectors save lives

Senior citizens are more likely to die in home fires than any other segment of the population in the United States. Based on this statistic, the San Marcos Fire Department has teamed up with the Burn Institute to provide senior citizens assistance with their smoke detectors' maintenance.

To qualify for a free inspection, you must be a citizen of San Marcos, be at least 55 years of age, and need assistance in determining if your smoke detector is in good working condition.  If your smoke detector needs to be replaced, one will be provided free of charge.
