San Marcos Council Member Mike Sannella (Deputy Mayor)

Mike Sannella was first elected to the San Marcos City Council in November 2022. Prior to joining the City Council, Mike served on the Vallecitos Water District Board of Directors for eight years.

Mike resides in San Marcos with his wife, Amy, and their daughter. He has been a resident of San Marcos since 1996 and has served the community as a City Planning Commissioner, Vice President of the San Marcos Economic Development Corporation and Vice President of San Diego County Crime Stoppers. Additionally, he supports the San Marcos Boys & Girls Club by volunteering on the Club’s annual auction committee.

Mike currently works in the defense and aeronautical industry and brings over 20 years of business and risk management experience to his councilmember role.

As a lifelong resident of northern San Diego County, he has been an advocate for increased transparency in government, greater public outreach and proactive solutions that enhance our quality of life, support public safety and promote a vibrant local economy.

He has a bachelor’s degree from California State University, San Marcos and is a graduate of CSUSM’s Leadership North County program.
