The City of San Marcos partners with the San Marcos Sheriff's Department Crime Prevention Unit for the Neighborhood Watch program.  The Crime Prevention Unit offers the following services "free of charge".  Please contact (760) 510-5254, for scheduling.

Neighborhood Watch

Neighborhood Watch is one of the oldest and most effective crime prevention programs in the country.  It engages residents in a cooperative effort to watch for and report suspicious activities in their neighborhood.  The goal of the program is to provide an environment where people care about each other and their community; to become extra eyes and ears in the area.  Crime prevention specialists are available to help establish a Neighborhood Watch program in your community.  A volunteer is required to host the meeting in their home.  Meetings are usually scheduled on weeknights in the early evening and last about an hour and a half.

Residential Security Consultation

An onsite security assessment of your residence is conducted and cost effective recommendations to help deter residential burglary are provided. This service usually takes about 45 minutes.

Operation Identification

This service is designed to protect valuables from theft.  It involves electronically engraving valuable items with either a driver’s license number or a state identification card number. This makes property easy to trace and identity.  A decal for display is provided alerting potential burglars that the property in the residence is marked with an identification number.
