Why do I need an Inspection?

City building inspectors conduct inspections to ensure compliance with approved plans, and local and state building code regulations; they conduct inspections that relate to life-safety, structural integrity, accessibility, energy-efficiency, electrical, plumbing and mechanical systems. The inspection process helps ensure public safety, health and welfare, and secures the value of property improvements.

When/What inspections are required?

Inspections are performed at critical junctures over the course of construction as authorized by the building permit. Regularly called inspections include foundation, rough frame combination, exterior lath and drywall, and final inspection. Intermediary inspections traditionally include underground plumbing and electrical, exterior sheer and roof nail inspection that allow weather covering prior to frame combo, insulation, and electric meter release prior to final. Partial inspections may be requested in order to facilitate the coordination of the trades.

All projects require a final inspection.

Inspections can be performed the following business day if requested by 3 p.m.
Unless otherwise informed, the inspection will be performed on the requested day.
To learn an estimated time frame for a requested inspection, please call (760) 744-1050, ext. 3260 between 7:30 and 8 a.m. on the morning of the inspection date.

For permits beginning with (B25-xxx) you are required to schedule your inspections through your account in the public portal. Once logged into your account, you will be able access all permits associated and view, update, cancel or request inspections.

For permits beginning with (B24-, B23-, B22- or prior), continue scheduling inspections through your E-TrakIT account in link below or complete the online form. IMPORTANT: Do not use the scheduling tools on this page if your permit was submitted after January 1, 2025 and has a (B25-xxx) reference.
